GNU-Aid: Intelligent computer aided instruction system
Educational applications of computer technology have been under development since the early 1960s. These applications have included scheduling courses, managing teaching aids, and grading tests. The predominant application, however, has been to use the computer as a device that interacts directly with the student. This has led to the evolution of Intelligent Computer Aided Instruction System (ICAI). This paper discusses the various components of an IGAI system and explains the GNU-AID SYSTEM. GNU-AID is an ICAI system which incorporates artificial intelligence techniques to help the student learn the GNUEMACS editor (enhanced version of EMACS on UNIX). Its logical and inferencing capabilities are derived by simulating the execution of the solution specified by the student.
