Biography
Abdulla Desmal (Member, IEEE) received the B.S. degree in electronics engineering from the University of Bahrain (UOB), Isa-Town, Bahrain, in 2009, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Thuwal, Saudi Arabia, in 2010 and 2016, respectively.
From 2009 to 2016, he was a Research Assistant with the Division of Computer, Electrical, and Mathematical Science and Engineering, KAUST. From 2016 to 2017, he was a Postdoctoral Research Associate with Tufts University, Medford, MA, USA. From 2017 to 2018, he was a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with Duke University, Durham, NC, USA. He is currently an Assistant Professor with the Higher Colleges of Technologies, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. His research interests include the development of efficient forward electromagnetic solvers, X-ray models for luggage screening and radiation therapy, nonlinear optimization, and sparsity regularized inverse scattering algorithms.
In 2015, he received the Rasheed Al-Deen Bin Al-Soori Award from UOB for his excellent academic achievements. He authored two finalist papers in the student paper competitions at the 2014 IEEE Antennas and Propagation Society International Symposium and the 2014 Applied Computational Electromagnetics Society Conference.
