Biography

Y. B. Acharya received the M.Sc. (Tech.) degree in electronics engineering from Birla Institute of Science and Technology, Pilani, India, and the Ph.D. degree in electronics engineering from Devi Ahilya Vishwavidhyalaya, Indore, India.
Since joining the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL), Ahmedabad, India, in 1973, he has been working on the development of spaceborne (rocket, balloon, and satellite) instrumentation for the measurement of minor constituents, electrical parameters, and ionospheric plasma parameters. He was also involved in the setup and design of the Lidar facility at PRL, Mount Abu. He was involved with the design and development of the high-energy X-ray spectrometer on board the Chandrayaan-1 mission. He is currently working on the design and development of an alpha particle X-ray spectrometer and an X-ray solar monitor for the Chandrayaan-2 mission scheduled to be flown in 2013. He has about 56 publications to his credit in peer-reviewed journals.
Dr. Acharya is a Fellow of the Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India) and of The Institution of Engineers (India).
