Biography
Youssef Abdel-Magid (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.Sc. (Hons.) degree in electrical engineering from Cairo University, Egypt, in 1969, and the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada, in 1972 and 1976, respectively. From 1976 to 1979, he was a Tele-Control Engineer with Manitoba Hydro, Canada. From 1979 to 2005, he was with the Electrical Engineering Department, King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals. In 2005, he joined the Petroleum Institute, Abu Dhabi, as a Professor of electrical engineering, and assumed different positions such as the Dean of engineering and the Dean of the Graduate School. His research interests include adaptive and robust control, power system control and optimization, applications of AI techniques in power systems, and power system control with FACTS devices. He was a recipient of numerous awards and honors from Petroleum Institute.
