Biography

Mahesh P. Abegaonkar (Senior Member, IEEE) received the Ph.D. degree in microwave sensors from the University of Pune, Pune, India, in 2002. From June 2002 to January 2005, he was a Postdoctoral Researcher and an Assistant Professor (Contract) with the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Kyungpook National University, Daegu, South Korea. In February 2005, he joined the Centre for Applied Research in Electronics (CARE), IIT Delhi, New Delhi, where he is currently an Associate Professor. He has authored or coauthored more than 145 publications in international journals and conferences and 30 publications in national conferences. His current research interests include periodic structures for antenna applications, millimeterwave antennas for 5G applications, MIMO antennas, and printed antennas (reconfigurable, broadband, high gain, and active). He has been a Senior Member of the Young Associate of Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) since 2013. He was a recipient of the Young Engineer Award from INAE in 2008 in the field of RF and Microwave Engineering, and the several awards as best paper presentations during several national and international conferences. He received the Senior Research Fellowship from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Government of India from 1998 to 2001. He was a Secretary and a Treasurer of the IEEE MTT-S Delhi Chapter from 2008 to 2017 and the Vice-Chairman from 2017 to 2018. He was the National Coordinator of Virtual Laboratories under Electronics and Communication Engineering vertical and an initiative of Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), the Government of India under the National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technologies (NMEICT). He is a Reviewer of manuscripts of the IEEE and IET journals and letters.
