Biography
Udochukwu B. Akuru (Senior Member, IEEE) received the B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, Nigeria, in August 2008 and June 2013, respectively, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Stellenbosch University, Stellenbosch, South Africa, in December 2017. In 2018 and 2019, he held a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship with Stellenbosch University. From 2011 to 2019, he was a Lecturer with the University of Nigeria.
He is currently a Senior Lecturer with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria, South Africa. He is also a Registered Engineer of the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Senior Member of SAIEE, South African National Research Foundation (NRF)-Rated Researcher, and volunteer to various societies and committees such as IEEE IAS EMC and IEEE IES EMTC. He has published widely and acts as a reviewer for several journals and conferences. His research interests include the design of electrical machines design for electrical power and renewable energy technologies. He was the recipient of several grants and awards, including the prestigious Jorma Luomi Student Forum Award at the 2018 International Conference on Electrical Machines (ICEM) and the 2020 TWAS-DFG Research Fellowship. He is an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications and Chair of IEEE South Africa Section.
