Biography

Timo Aalto received the M.Sc. and D.Sc. degrees in optoelectronics technology from Helsinki University of Technology, Espoo, Finland, in 1998 and 2004, respectively. He has worked at VTT in Espoo, Finland, since 1997 with the primary research focus on silicon photonics, making him one of the pioneers in the field. He currently leads the Photonics Integration team that operates in VTT's two clean room facilities, Micronova in Espoo, and Micromodule centre in Oulu. He has authored 80 refereed journal and conference papers, one book chapter, and more than ten granted patents. He is a member of EOS and Photonics Finland. Relating to the successful business development in silicon photonics, he was the recipient of the VTT Award in 2014.
