A comparative study of high phase order transmission system with three phase double circuit transmission system

This paper encompasses the comparative study of the existing TPDC 400 KV Gujarat Electricity Board's (At present GETCO (Gujarat Energy Transmission Co.)) line uprated with six-phase (HPOTS), with different loading conditions, conductor configurations and voltage ratings with respect to the transmission line efficiency and regulation. The salient features of six-phase system with respect to it's counter part TPDCS and HVDCT are highlighted. This paper also covers the comparative study of the effect of series and shunt compensating devices at different locations over the line length, on various important parameters like regulation, transfer impedance, amount of power transferred etc. in both the systems. The terms "compensating efficiency" and "critical compensation" for series and shunt compensation respectively, are defined and used. The effect of different percentage of series and shunt compensation on the said line is calculated and the results obtained are graphically plotted for an easy grasp of readers.
