Power transmission in Great Britain-what does the future hold?
The aim of this paper is to identify the challenges that will have to be overcome in the future in order to continue with the successful operation of a main interconnected system (MITS) in Great Britain. It begins by assessing the current role of the transmission system in meeting the requirement of its user and identifying the drivers for additional capacity and the technology employed to provide this additional capacity. The shift in sources of power generation is then examined together with the resultant changes in power system requirements that this brings.
