Biography
Bart H. Bijnens (S'89–M'90) was born in Bilzen, Belgium, in 1968. He received a Master's degree in electronic engineering in 1990 and a Ph.D. degree in medical sciences in 1997 from the Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium. from 1990 to 1998 he was a researcher at the Dept. of Cardiology of the University Hospital Gasthuisberg and the University of Leuven. Since 1998 he has been an associate professor at the Faculty of Medicine and coordinator of teaching courses in cardiac imaging. His main research topic is cardiac imaging, with a special focus on echocardiography. Current projects involve myocardial tissue characterization based on RF data and myocardial deformation analysis (strain and strain rate imaging) based on ultrasound.
