Biography

Zbigniew Michalewicz received the Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Computer Science, Polish Academy of Sciences, Warsaw, Poland, in 1981, and the Doctor of Science (Habilitation) degree in computer science from the Polish Academy of Sciences in 1997.
He is an Emeritus Professor with the School of Computer Science, University of Adelaide, Adelaide, SA, Australia, and a Chief Scientist with Complexica Pty Ltd. (currently in research and development mode researching with foundation customers to develop next generation applications for cognitive computing). In 2002, he received the title of Professor from the President of Poland. He also holds Professor positions with the Institute of Computer Science, Polish Academy of Sciences, Polish-Japanese Institute of Information Technology, Warsaw, and a Honorary Professor position with the State Key Laboratory of Software Engineering, Wuhan University, Wuhan, China. He has published several books, including a monograph entitled Genetic Algorithms + Data Structures = Evolution Programs (3 editions, several translations), and over 250 technical papers in journals and conference proceedings.
Prof. Michalewicz was a recipient of the Order of the Rebirth of Polish Polonia Restituta—the second highest Polish State Decoration Civilian (after the Order of the White Eagle) by the President of Poland and the Outstanding Achievements in the field of education, science, sports, culture, arts, economy, national defense, social activities, the civil service, and the development of good relations with other countries. In 2006, he was appointed as a Business Ambassador for the State of South Australia. He is a Fellow of the Australian Computer Society.
