Biography

J. Fernando A. Silva (Life Senior Member, IEEE) was born in Monção Portugal, in 1956. He received the Dipl.-Ing. degree in electrical engineering and the Doctor degree in electrical and computer engineering (power electronics and control) from the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (UTL), Lisbon, Portugal, in 1980 and 1990, respectively. He is currently a Full Professor in power electronics and energy storage in the scientific area of energy with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), Universidade de Lisboa (UL). He is also a Senior Researcher with the Instituto de Engenharia de Sistemas e Computadores—Investigação e Desenvolvimento em Lisboa (INESC-ID). He is also an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, from 2000 to 2019, has been a member of the Editorial Board of IEEE Industrial Electronics Magazine, since 2010, and a member of Portuguese Engineering Society.
